The proposed rezoning of several blocks around Broadway Junction, one of the largest transit centers in New York City, aims to help fulfill its potential as “a more accessible and dynamic transit hub and economic center,” as described in a 2019 report by the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Department of City Planning.
The approximately 1.5 million-square-foot mixed-use development could accommodate a variety of tenants, including an institutional anchor like a hospital or university, retail designed to cater to the needs of the neighborhood, offices, open space, and affordable housing.
As such, the community planning process for the project is currently underway, in partnership with local elected officials and neighborhood organizations like the Local Development Corporation of East New York.
