Totem cares deeply about neighborhoods, and we are always on the lookout for opportunities to bring community-conscious solutions to gaps in marketplaces – through our own developments and by offering advisory services on projects that support affordable housing, job creation, and expanded educational opportunities. Our holistic approach involves coordination with architects, land owners, lenders, brokers, community representatives, and other stakeholders to develop mixed-use projects that respond to people’s concerns and ultimately enhance the urban landscape. Highlights of some of our projects include:

Bantam Tools | Peekskill, NY

Bantam Tools makes affordable and accessible desktop manufacturing equipment and software. The company was looking to relocate from California to New York and engaged Totem to advise on its search for light industrial space. Totem helped identify, source, and complete due diligence on the acquisition of a 2-acre site in Peekskill. We also designed overview materials about the project and helped Bantam Tools secure approximately half a million dollars in tax incentives from New York State to support future growth.

Other Spaces | Brooklyn, NY

Other Spaces is a network of unique accommodations for students and travelers in the best cities in the world. Totem partners with developer, Macro Sea, on university outreach, strategic partnerships, and planning efforts for the forthcoming Brooklyn location in Williamsburg.

“Totem understands that real estate development doesn’t just require land and buildings, but also the savvy to navigate complex environments to get a project off the ground. Their team has that special combination of real estate market knowledge and community and government expertise to elevate any development they are part of.”
